The Fit Muslim Health Challenge - Status Check
by Dr. Cheryl El-Amin, MANA Health Task Force Convener
It has been approximately six months since the MANA Health Task Force launched its first community initiative—The Fit Muslim Health Challenge. We asked believers to complete an online survey indicating their nia (intention) towards developing and adopting a healthier Islamic lifestyle; one of moderation and balance.
Since April 2009, 39 persons completed the survey. The majority was female (89%). Health concerns included diabetes, arthritis, heart disease, high blood pressure and asthma. Most planned to increase or begin an exercise routine that included walking or free weights. Eating plans ranged from the Mediterranean diet, basic moderation, to elimination of refined sugars or meats. Fitness goals ranged from a loss of 5 – 50+ pounds. Insha'Allah, all participants have experienced some level of success in their efforts.
If you participated in the Fitness Challenge (registered or not), the Health Task Force would like to hear about your results. Please take a moment to complete the survey through the link below. Your information is confidential and will not be shared. We are especially interested to know if the Challenge should be continued and if so, how we can improve.
